FedEx Small Business Grant

March 20, 2019 By jryven

Elevator Pitch

We make energy bars, granola, and brittle using whole nutrient-dense gluten-free ingredients. Find us at stores, hospitals, and online.

Tell us about your business. What inspired you to get into it, what you sell/service you offer, what makes your business stand out and how it impacts you, your community or the environment.

DoughChicks was created by Denise to provide opportunities for her daughter Kara, who is on the autism spectrum. After graduating from high school, Kara attended culinary arts school, where she cultivated her passion for food. The DoughChicks are avid runners, cyclists and foodies, which led to the development of KaraComet, a soy-free, gluten-free energy bar. Customers responded so well to the energy bar, they created a gluten-free granola and other healthy snack foods.

How would you use the FedEx Small Business Grant money to make a significant impact on your business?

With a $50K win: We would obtain an 800 square foot area to fully equip a commercial kitchen (35K) and hire another employee (15K). With a $30K win: We would hire an employee (15K), purchase QuickBooks, design a display box for our energy bars (6K), obtain professional product photos (5K), update nutrition labels, redesign labels (1K), invest in more marketing materials (1K) and have custom shirts designed (2K). With a $15K win: We would obtain QuickBooks, update labels and marketing materials.
